Hello Everyone! Welcome to Captured Joy With Brittany.
My name is Brittany Elkins and this is my blog about photography, faith, and life with the focus on what brings JOY for me and hopefully to you too! This first post is gonna be mostly an introduction into my life so buckle up! I won’t give the full history because we would be here all day, but I will give a short background for all of you who don’t know me personally. So, I am 27 years old and was born & raised in good ol’ Indiana. I grew up in the church so I’ve been loving Jesus for almost all of my life. I have always been a creative person even as a kid so who I am today is really no surprise other than I am maybe more outgoing and extroverted than ever before which is something I never thought would be possible considering I couldn’t even order my own food at 12 years old because I was too shy to speak to anyone I didn’t already know. So, my start in photography stems from my earliest childhood memories, keep reading to find out!Photography and my creative side for me started when I was maybe 2 or 3 years old. I remember growing up I would spend almost every week day with my grandparents as my parents worked to support our family. My grandpa really fostered the creative in me. He always had coloring books and supplies on hand which often kept me busy and happy might I add. I would color the pictures in the coloring books and then excited rip them out when I was done with them and run to my grandpa to show him my artwork. Some time during this time frame he started paying me for each artwork, most of the time it was a quarter or two, although occasionally it would be a dollar or more! This was my start and from there the creative side blossomed through the years. I was a Girl Scout where I loved doing arts and crafts, even went to a week of camp all about photography. I attended church camp for years after 5th grade and always chose the arts and crafts tracks to participate in. Then in high school I chose band over arts but band on its own is a form of art so I just chose a new form of art to pursue. After high school I totally abandoned art all together to go to college for business. I got my associates degree in business and was set to transfer to finish my bachelors, but when I transferred I fell back in love with photography and chose to pursue that instead. I took a leap of faith and dove in as a brand new freshman entering into a four year degree. I was older than all of my classmates and didn’t really fit in but chose to do it anyways. Four years go by and I get my degree in photography and I have been loving it ever since! Now, my photography is starting to overlap into my faith and life in ways I wouldn’t have even dreamed of while in school.My faith is one that started from my parents dragging me to church every week as a kid, forcing me to be involved, to now I am choosing it all on my own because my life without it would be pointless. I have always been involved in my church community to some capacity, but I currently volunteer in the children’s ministry. I co-teach both in our nursery area and our school age kids area. It has been something so rewarding as I love kids and raising up the next generation to be amazing human beings! I will be wildly honest with you though, I volunteer in ministry but my own walk with Christ is not at its highest potential because I am terrible at keeping any form of daily quiet time or even time for prayer. This is where this comes into play, You are now part of my accountability to get in a daily time with Jesus and I can share on that as we go and how it continues to shape my life.Sharing my life with y’all is gonna be a wild ride but here are a few things that I will honestly talk about the most are as follows: Jesus and my faith, photography, arts and crafts, travel, baseball (even Banana Ball, I know controversial), food, health and fitness journey, and my dog of course!If you made it this far into the wild world of Brittany congrats!!
